What is the Tasmanian Pepperberry?

Native to the woodlands and cool temperate rainforests of Australia’s south-eastern region, The Tasmanian pepperberry plant or Tasmannia lanceolata produces small, round, purple-black berries that, when dried, resemble black pepper grains in both size and colour. It is an evergreen shrub that is often used as a culinary spice, found in Aboriginal cuisine, as well as in traditional medicine, where it is used to treat skin disorders, colic, venereal diseases and stomach ache. The pepperberries and their leaves have been used for thousands of years by Aboriginal people to calm skin discomfort, thanks to their powerful anti-inflammatory agents.

Known for its medicinal properties, the Tasmanian pepperberry contains potent antioxidants that are four times more powerful than blueberries, and their health benefits are just as important today as they have been for centuries.
